A Quick Guide to Tea Leaf Reading (Tasseography)

Tasseography is the art of interpreting the symbolic patterns left by wet tea leaves in the bottom of a cup.

Step 1: Prepare the Tea

Use Loose Leaf Tea: For the best results, use a loose-leaf tea with relatively fine leaves, like Earl Grey or traditional black tea.

Brew: Place the loose leaves directly into your cup and pour hot water over them.

Drink: Sip the tea, ideally focusing on a question or intention, until only a small amount of liquid remains—just enough to swirl the leaves.

Step 2: Form the Pattern

Swirl: Hold the cup in your non-dominant hand. Gently swirl the cup three times from right to left (clockwise). This distributes the wet leaves up the sides of the cup.

Drain: Quickly and decisively invert the cup onto the saucer (the black constellation saucer is perfect for this). Allow the excess liquid to drain for about a minute.

Reveal: Turn the cup right-side up and remove it from the saucer. The patterns of the remaining leaves are now ready to be read.

Step 3: Interpret the Symbols

The symbols on the inside of your cup serve as a key, and the placement of the leaves indicates a timeframe for the reading:

Near the Rim/Handle: Represents events that are imminent or happening now (the immediate future).

Down the Sides (Middle): Represents events that are coming in the near future (weeks to months).

Near the Bottom: Represents events in the far future or those that are difficult to achieve.

The Handle: Represents the "self" or the home/current environment of the reader.

Common Symbols on Your Cup

Look for the leaves to settle into or near the pictorial symbols on your cup's interior:

Key: Good fortune, opportunity, or a mystery solved.

Snake: Betrayal, enemies, or a need for caution.

Bottle/Vial: Health, healing, or perhaps a secret admirer.

Star/Celestial Body: Success, good luck, and high destiny.
